Biography

Viola Kasone is a Technical Laboratory Officer at the National Health Laboratory Services/CPHL Department of the Ministry of Health (MOH), Uganda. She coordinates the Advanced HIV Disease/opportunistic Infections laboratory program. She has worked for the MOH for the past 9 years and recently led the laboratory team in revising the national consolidated Advanced HIV guidelines, TB/HIV, and Cryptococcal Meningitis. She has a particular interest in designing and implementing laboratory systems that support the decentralized care approach, aimed at quickly linking patients to care and management.

Point-of-care C-reactive protein testing for tuberculosis screening among people living with HIV: A feasibility study in Uganda

The study showed that POC CRP testing is a feasible method of TB screening among PLHIV in Uganda. However, to ensure the successful implementation of CRP testing, it is essential to invest adequately in CRP commodities, equipment management, data connectivity, continuous training, mentorships, and technical support supervision activities.
