Biography
Tom Sumner is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and a member of the Centre for Mathematical Modelling of Infectious Diseases at LSHTM. His work focusses on the use of mathematical models to study tuberculosis across a broad range of areas including case finding, vaccination and the macro economic impacts of tuberculosis.

The delivery of new TB vaccines to people living with HIV: When to vaccinate?
Our results suggest that the optimum timing of new TB vaccination for PLHIV will depend on the relative efficacy of vaccination in ART-naïve individuals vs individuals on ART, and the uptake and timing of ART initiation. If vaccine efficacy is lower among ART-naïve individuals, improvements in HIV programs may help maximize the impact of new TB vaccines.
