Biography
Timan Taryuta Eliya is a dedicated research scientist with over seven years of experience in public health, specializing in tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis, COVID-19, and tropical disease research. He is committed to strengthening health systems in low- and middle-income countries, particularly in Nigeria, to improve health outcomes among vulnerable populations.
Currently pursuing a Master of Science in Molecular Biology and Genomics at Nasarawa State University, Timan holds a Master of Public Health from Bingham University. He has received numerous certifications.
Timan’s professional journey includes roles as a Medical Laboratory Scientist and Program Manager for various health initiatives.
Key Impacts
Analyzing the effect of demographic factors on Xpert positivity and cycle threshold values in tuberculosis testing
Gender and age significantly influence Xpert TB positivity rates, with young adult males showing the highest risk. CT values, however, remain consistent across demographics. These findings support the need for age- and gender-targeted TB screening strategies to enhance early case detection and resource allocation in high-burden settings

Predicting TB culture contamination using machine learning: The role of sputum transit time and clinical features
This study demonstrates the utility of machine learning in enhancing TB diagnostic workflows by accurately identifying specimens at high risk of culture contamination. Integrating such predictive tools into laboratory systems could support targeted interventions, reduce diagnostic delays, and improve the overall quality of TB culture-based testing.

Diagnostic accuracy of MultNAT and PortNAT with Swab Sample compared with Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra for M.tuberculosis detection in Nigeria
In comparison to Xpert, MultNAT showed better sensitivity in identifying MTB cases, while both MultNAT and PortNAT had high specificity. Although PortNAT had a lower sensitivity, its 100% positive predictive value suggests that a positive result from this test is highly reliable.
