Biography
Takashi Yoshiyama is a researcher of epidemiology at research institute of tuberculosis and clinician at Fukujuji hospital. Main areas of research are IGRA testing, especially the fluctuation of IGRA test and risk of development to tuberculosis diseases, acquisition of drug resistance during standard treatment, and clinical course of MDR tuberculosis.
Key Impacts
Reinfection as a cause of recurrence involving drug-resistant bacilli arising from initially susceptible isolates in TB
A study at Fukujuji Hospital identified reinfection as a significant cause of drug-resistant tuberculosis recurrence, affecting 4.9% of cases with multiple drug susceptibility tests, highlighting the importance of distinguishing between re-infection and hetero infection in managing tuberculosis treatment and prevention strategies.
