Biography

Dr. Rahman, an Associate Scientist at the Mycobacteriology Laboratory, Infectious Diseases Division of icddr,b, holds a Veterinary Medicine degree and a Ph.D. in Medical Science. His work focuses on developing and evaluating molecular and immunological diagnostics for infectious diseases, particularly tuberculosis. He researches early TB detection, drug resistance, molecular epidemiology, and transmission analysis. Additionally, he is also keen to explore the molecular mechanism of virulence and immunity to improve TB treatment. His goal is to enhance healthcare for underprivileged communities by improving access to rapid, accurate diagnostics and ensuring effective TB treatment.

Key Impacts

Performance of Fujifilm SILVAMP TB LAM for detection of pulmonary TB across different healthcare facilities and urban-slum communities in Bangladesh

FujiLAM demonstrated high specificity but suboptimal and variable sensitivity across settings in adults in Bangladesh. These findings underscore the need for further refinement of the assay to improve its utility as a non-sputum-based diagnostic tool for detection of PTB in HIV-negative populations at low-resource contexts.
