Biography

Dr Sue-Ann Meehan is a research psychologist and senior researcher at the Desmond Tutu TB Centre, at Stellenbosch University, South Africa. Her expertise lies in operational research studies with the aim of strengthening TB and HIV services and ultimately improving patient health outcomes in settings with high TB and HIV burden. Since 2023, she has served on the steering committee of the Union against TB and Lung Disease Maternal and Child Health working group. She is a member of the South African TB Think Tank Child and Maternal Health and the Missing Cases and Linkage to Care working groups.

Pregnant South African women experienced more delay in initiating TB treatment and had high HIV prevalence. Linkages to TB treatment initiation should be strengthened to ensure timely treatment initiation in pregnant women, especially for women diagnosed in hospital.
