Biography

I’m Steffen Pichlo who recently graduated from University of Lubeck in MSc in Infection Biology. For the final year research project, I worked in the research group of Clinical Infectious Diseases at Research Center Borstel. This project delves with evaluation of diagnostic tests for the rapid detection of tuberculosis. My research interests include infectious diseases, understanding it behavioural pattens and find a reliable solution and or contribute in accurate diagnostic tools development.

Key Impacts

Lipoarabinomannan (LAM) as a biomarker for the diagnosis of TB

The PATHFAST LAM Ag assay is meeting the WHOs TTP benchmark for a near point-of-care-test for the diagnosis of TB on sputum samples. Reproducibility is greatly enhanced by homogenising sputum samples prior to analysis. For non-sputum biological matrices, like urine, serum, plasma or exhaled breath the assay is not suitable for TB diagnosis.
