What is it if it's not TB? Infections causing a similar clinical picture and their morbidity and mortality

Fungal (9%) and NTM (12%) infections were frequent in presumptive TB patients and mortality in TB and NoTB exceeded 10%. Identification of cultured fungi and specific fungal PCRs (Histoplasma, Blastomyces) for final fungal classification are pending. Further analyses including sequencing of cultured NTM-strains, stool and sputum PCR for Paragonimus and metagenomics on sputum will be applied to better differentiate clinically relevant infections.
