Diagnostic yield of tongue swab- compared to sputum-based molecular testing in four high-burden countries

TB diagnostic yield was non-inferior with tongue swab- vs. sputum-based molecular testing. Tongue swab-based molecular platforms may have an added value to enhance existing molecular diagnostic strategies, and may be considered for rapid TB testing in settings where sputum-based molecular platforms are not feasible due to cost, challenges with sputum collection, and/or infrastructure requirements.
