Why oxygen plants fail: A case study from The Gambia

The EFSTH case demonstrates that capital investment in PSA plants is insufficient for success. Failures stemmed from neglecting the broader implementation ecosystem. Sustainable oxygen access requires comprehensive planning addressing technical training, installation quality assurance, clear accountability structures, long-term funding for maintenance and operations, and robust infrastructure. A holistic, lifecycle approach is essential for future oxygen system investments in LMICs.
