Biography

Dr Robin Yasi is a Senior Medical Officer with the National TB Programme. He has over 14 years experience in leading the programmatic management of drug-resistant TB in Papua New Guinea. He leads technically the introduction and roll out of new WHO-recommended prevention, diagnostic and treatment interventions into the country.

Rural residence, lack of treatment support, younger adult age, and HIV-positive status are key determinants of adverse outcomes among MDR-TB patients. Urgent investment is needed in community-based support, patient enablers, and targeted interventions in under-resourced provinces to improve treatment outcomes.
