Biography
Ricardo is a Full Professor at the School of Nursing, Ribeirão Preto, and president of the Brazilian Tuberculosis Research Network. He was a Senior Visiting Professor at Johns Hopkins and collaborates with the Center for Infectious Diseases and Nursing Innovation. He is part of international groups such as the Global Health and Tropical Medicine group and the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. He has been president of the Research Committee at EERP-USP and is an associate editor of the Latin American Journal of Nursing. Previously, he held leadership roles in REDE-TB and the Interunit Doctoral Program at USP.

This study highlights the importance of a variety of factors—such as behavioral, genetic, economic, demographic, and environmental—when identifying high-risk subgroups for complications and mortality due to COVID-19. Due to the diversity of individuals and regions, implementing targeted regional policies that reflect local population dynamics and socioeconomic conditions is crucial. This research can guide future health interventions, promoting equity and addressing the diverse needs of different populations.

Influence of pneumopathy on the survival of people with COVID-19 in Brazil (2021–2024)
This study showed a significant difference in survival time among individuals who tested positive for COVID-19, comparing those who died with those who were discharged. In addition, the presence of pneumopathy was associated with a tendency for the clinical condition to progressively worsen, resulting in a greater likelihood of death.
