Biography
Graduated in Medicine from the PUCRS (1979), Residency in Pediatrics 1980-82, professor at FAMED-PUCRS since 1986. He was a fellow in Pediatric Pulmonology at the Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto, Canada (1986-1987).He was a Research at the Arizona Respiratory Center (1995-1998), where he completed a Master's in Public Health (MPH) - Epidemiology (1996). He obtained a PhD in Medicine (Pulmonology) from the UFRGS (1999). In 2011, he completed a postdoctoral, at the Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology, in Barcelona, Spain.He is the principal investigator of the PROADI-SUS, TBPEd project, at the Moinhos de Vento Hospital in Porto Alegre.

These partial results suggest that Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra using induced sputum samples may be a useful and faster alternative to MGIT in the diagnosis of TB in children.
