Biography

Rein Houben is a Professor of Infectious Disease Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He started at the School in 2006, working primarily on the molecular epidemiology of Tuberculosis. After spending 3 years working on field studies in North Malawi, he joined and now co-leads the LSHTM TB modelling group. For the past years he has focussed on advancing the conceptual thinking and quantification of the spectrum of Mtb infection and TB disease, combining historical and contemporary data with mathematical modelling methods. He also has an interest in structural determinants of TB, including poverty and nutrition.
