Biography

Dr. Petros Karakousis is a Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University, where he co-directs the Tuberculosis Research Advancement Center. His research focuses on host-directed therapies for tuberculosis (TB), aiming to enhance immune responses and shorten treatment duration. Dr. Karakousis has led studies investigating the immunomodulatory effects of statins in TB, demonstrating their potential to improve macrophage function and reduce lung inflammation. He has co-edited the book Advances in Host-Directed Therapies Against Tuberculosis. Additionally, Dr. Karakousis is a member of the ITHEMYC consortium, contributing to the development of novel HDTs through preclinical models and computational approaches.
