Biography

Dr. Pere Joan Cardona is a clinical microbiologist and immunologist specializing in tuberculosis (TB) pathophysiology. He leads the Experimental Tuberculosis Unit at the Germans Trias i Pujol Research Institute (IGTP) in Badalona, Spain, and serves as a Professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. Dr. Cardona has developed innovative in vitro, in vivo, and in silico models to study TB. He is the inventor of RUTI, the first therapeutic vaccine for TB, and Nyaditum resae, a probiotic aimed at preventing TB. His work focuses on host-directed therapies and understanding the mechanisms of latent and active TB infection.
