Biography

Dr Pauline Howell is a Deputy Director at the Clinical HIV Research Unit (CHRU) and Site Leader at the Sizwe and Gqeberha sites in South Africa. With 12 years’ experience as a clinical trial investigator she has contributed to several DR-TB trials that led to WHO guideline changes, including STREAM, Nix, ZeNix, IMPAACT1108 and BEAT-Tuberculosis. She is a principal investigator for paediatric DR-TB trials for bedaquiline, delamanid and pretomanid as well as vice-chair of several paediatric protocol teams. Dr Howell is a member of the South African NCAC, a ministerial committee that advises the National Department of Health on treatment for DR-TB.
