Biography
Paul Lodi is a clinician specialized in Tuberculosis, Leprosy and other respiratory condition. He has over 20 years’ experience in tuberculosis and leprosy control. He has masters in project planning and management. He is currently the County Tuberculosis and Leprosy Coordinator for Bungoma County, Kenya. He leads a team of ten sub-county TB coordinators in implementing various TB, leprosy and other lung disease control strategies.

Role of TB preventive therapy in reduction of incidence of TB disease among health workers in Bungoma County, Kenya
Bungoma County has demonstrated that screening of health care worker and initiation of TPT among the HCW has shown a decline in TB notification rate. Policy on HCW screening should be adhered to and those who screened negative should be initiated on TPT as this is likely to reduce incidence of TB among HCW which will reduce onwards TB transmission.

Health care workers screening for TB disease over time in relation to TB mortality in Bungoma County, Kenya
There was drastic reduction of mortality from tuberculosis among health care workers in Bungoma County with the increase uptake of TB screening. Regular TB screening leads to early identification of TB disease and initiation of treatment leading to favourable treatment outcome and reduce TB transmission. Policy on HCW screening for TB should be followed to the latter.
