Key Impacts

Speciation, antimicrobial resistance and virulence factors of clinical isolates of NTM from a tertiary care hospital in South India

The common NTM species isolated from our hospital were M. abscessus, M. fortuitum and M. intracellulare. We observed clarithromycin resistance only in M. abscessus. Rapid and accurate detection of drug resistance in NTM species would help clinicians initiate appropriate treatment, increasing the chance of a successful outcome.
