Key Impacts
Environmental impact assessments in TB healthcare settings in Nigeria: The gap between identification and action
As the climate crisis intensifies, EIAs are increasingly mandated by funding agencies to ensure environmental responsibility in project design and implementation. Our study shows the usefulness of EIAs in identifying good practices and gaps in managing environmental impact of TB health facilities. However, lack of dedicated funding and a clear strategy for addressing the identified gaps limits their use. Future projects should incorporate standardized assessments per facility level and actionable mitigation strategies to ensure environmental monitoring and management plans are linked to budget allocations and follow-up mechanisms.
