Key Impacts
Beyond the diagnosis: Using social determinants to drive targeted TB interventions in South Africa’s West Rand District
Findings from this assessment have directly informed the implementation of a localized Social Determinants of Health Core Package of Interventions, currently being rolled out in all facilities in West Rand. This package includes nutrition support, social grant referrals, psychosocial support, and tailored patient education. These actions reflect a shift from biomedical-only models to an integrated, equity-driven TB response. The study underscores the importance of routinely assessing and responding to social vulnerabilities as part of national and sub-national TB programming.
