Key Impacts
Association between pre-diagnostic fluoroquinolone exposure and acquired fluoroquinolone resistance in M. tuberculosis in Shanghai, China: An EHR-based case-control study using whole-genome sequencing
A worrisome prevalence of FQ resistance among all TB cases in Shanghai, China was demonstrated, predominantly driven by acquired resistance. The dose-response relationship between pre-diagnostic FQ exposure and acquired resistance underscores the imperative need for judicious FQ use especially in respiratory infection therapy.
