Biography
I am a Infectious Diseases and Microbiology clinician and a clinical lecturer at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
I work as part of an advanced HIV disease research group at the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) in Kampala, conducting observational studies and RCTs aimed at improving the diagnosis, prevention and management of opportunistic infections (OIs) amongst hospitalised adults living with HIV. I have a particular interest in HIV-associated neurological infections (cryptococcal meningitis, and TB meningitis).
Key Impacts
TB and cytomegalovirus co-pathogenicity amongst adults with cryptococcal meningitis: A prospective cohort study
Co-infections amongst adults with cryptococcosis are highly prevalent; TB and/or CMV viremia occurred in >50% of participants. 18-week mortality was highest amongst participants with both TB disease and CMV viremia indicating co-pathogenicity in the context of HIV-associated cryptococcal meningitis. Empirical TB treatment and/or targeted anti-CMV therapy may be a potential therapeutic intervention to improve overall survival outcomes amongst this high-risk population.
