Biography

Dr Irungu Karuga is a medical epidemiologist and a TB Consultant with more than 14 years’ experience in public health and TB control. He is currently a senior specialist in the USAID Tamatisha TB activity, supporting TB care and prevention. He was the technical lead for the USAID-TIFA cross-border TB project targeting nomadic pastoralist counties along the Kenya-Uganda border. He has extensive expertise in public health policymaking, national strategic planning, project planning and implementation, monitoring and evaluation, and health implementation research.

Multisectoral cross-border TB control using the One-Health approach can enhance TB detection, treatment adherence, and continuity of care by improving coordination, data sharing, and access to services for mobile populations in remote, high-TB-burden pastoralist communities.
