Biography

Ilaria Motta is an infectious diseases physician trained at the University of Torino, Italy, with experience in managing HIV and TB infections in resource-limited settings. In 2018, she obtained her PhD in pharmacokinetics of TB drugs. From 2017 to 2024 she worked as Medical Monitor for the TB-PRACTECAL Clinical Trial and EndTB/Q clinical trials with with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). She collaborates as TB Medical Referent for MSF-Access.
She joined the Medical Research Council, Clinical Trial Unit, at University College London in June 2023 as a Principal Research Fellow, working in PARADIGM4TB Clinical Trial, flagship study of UNITE4TB project.

Geographical representativeness of participants enrolled in randomised trials for TB treatment: A systematic review

Geographical distribution of participants in TB trials over the past three decades is only partially representative of people with TB. Countries like Indonesia, Pakistan and the Philippines are underrepresented. Greater efforts are needed to support late-stage clinical trials in these countries.
