Key Impacts

Optimising TB preventive therapy: A comparative study of completion rates for isoniazid (6H) and isoniazid-rifampicin (3HR) regimens, USAID TB LON 3 project experience

The shorter regimen demonstrated significantly higher completion rates than 6H, likely due to reduced duration and pill burden, enhancing adherence. No significant gender disparity was observed, indicating equitable uptake. To improve TPT outcomes, scaling up the shorter regimen is recommended. Further research should explore barriers to 6H completion, while sustaining gender-responsive approaches to service delivery. Cost-effectiveness and long-term outcome analyses are also crucial to inform national TB prevention policies and ensure efficient, equitable, and evidence-based scale-up in high-burden settings like Nigeria.
