Key Impacts
Is universal health coverage the solution to protecting TB-affected households from financial and socio-economic burdens: A cross-sectional cost study in South Korea
Despite having high national health insurance coverage, households affected by TB in South Korea continued to face significant financial and socio-economic burdens. These findings reveal critical gaps in TB-sensitive social protection, particularly for non-medical and income-related expenses, and highlight the need to expand personalized protection strategies beyond medical care cost (e.g., paid sick leave and sickness benefits) to further protect TB-affected households.
