Biography

I am a Researcher at the Desmond Tutu TB Centre, Stellenbosch University, South Africa where I am part of a diverse, multi-disciplinary socio-behavioural team. I have experience designing and implementing a range of TB and HIV-related research projects (including research on formative and human-centred design, HIV/TB health information systems, and patient/person-centred care) using qualitative and mixed data research approaches.A central ambition in my health-related research is to translate ethnographic insights and findings into practicable results in low-and middle-income health services contexts especially, to inform delivery of programmes and services in ways that minimise, rather than reproduce, societal inequalities and challenges.

Perceptions of smartphone-based cough-audio TB triage among health facility clients: Findings from qualitative implementation research in CAGE-TB

Clients in South Africa and Uganda are open to a smartphone-based cough-audio TB triage test. The design must however align with existing TB services, include infection control, and TB-related advocacy to facilitate trust and use. Continued end-user engagement is essential to minimise potential for TB stigma.
