Sensitivity of PortNAT TB tongue swabs in adults with confirmed pulmonary TB: Results from a diagnostic study

PortNAT TB demonstrated moderate sensitivity (44.9%) for TB detection from tongue swabs, with higher sensitivity in sputum smear-positive individuals (73.3%) compared to those who were smear-negative (32.4%). While its sensitivity was slightly lower than Xpert Ultra from tongue swabs (46.9%), PortNAT TB showed high concordance with Xpert Ultra, particularly in smear-positive individuals. These findings suggest that PortNAT TB may have the potential as a complementary tool for TB diagnosis. Further studies are needed to assess its feasibility and utility in diverse populations and clinical settings.

Diagnostic accuracy of Fujifilm SILVAMP TB LAM II for TB in HIV-positive and HIV-negative adults: A multicenter study in Vietnam

FujiLAM exhibits high specificity (99.6%) and moderate sensitivity (41.2%) in HIV-positive adults, indicating potential as a non-invasive adjunct to sputum-based tests like Xpert. Its lower sensitivity (27.8%) in HIV-negative individuals limits broader use. Similar to other urine-based assays, FujiLAM’s relevance is most significant for HIV-associated TB, especially for people unable to produce sputum. Further research is needed to optimize its diagnostic role across diverse populations.
