Emelly Machisa, working as Health Program Officer in the department of Projects and Program Development for the Federation for Associations connected to the International Humana People to People (HPP) for the past 7 years. Emelly is providing capacity building and training to the HPP Member Associations and their program staff, supporting project implementation, programming new projects, and developing project manuals and tools. 21 years of experience in successfully serving people’s lives by mobilizing and organizing communities to take action in the fight against HIV/AIDS, TB and other health-related diseases affecting their wellbeing.

Urban gardens: A sustainable food supplementation model for persons with TB and their families in Lusaka, Zambia

Findings highlight the potential of urban gardens as a scalable, low-cost intervention to enhance TB recovery, mental well-being and economic resilience. Strengthening health promotion within TB programs can increase food production and improve outcomes. A multidisciplinary approach with integrated support systems to enhance food production should be considered in high TB burden settings.

The TRIO model: A community-led triad approach to improve TB adherence and psychosocial support in Zambia

The TRIO model demonstrates the potential of community-led interventions to strengthen resilience and promote long-term engagement in TB care. To further scale this intervention, it is recommended: Policy advocacy to incorporate TRIOs into national TB adherence strategies under community health. Continuous routine training for healthcare providers to embed TRIO approaches in routine TB care.
