Biography

I'm a Biologist at specialized in the diagnosis of drug-resistant TB. I additionally earned a MSc in International Health from the Humboldt University of Berlin, and completed my PhD at the University of Antwerp , with a dissertation focused on improving TB diagnostics, from phenotypic tests to whole genome sequencing. Based at the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Antwerp, I works as a laboratory advisor for Médecins sans Frontières projects and as postdoctoral scientist in other research studies, with the aim to enhance diagnostic tools in resource-limited settings.

Key Impacts

Phenotypic and genotypic resistance to key TB drugs in M. tuberculosis isolates from endTB-Q participants

Most observed ADR included BDQ. WGS-identified RAVs could explain most pR cases, but not all, suggesting additional mechanisms of resistance. For two participants experiencing ADR, pR preceded acquisition of (hetero)resistant variants. Hence, longitudinal sequencing may enhance genotypic ADR detection.
