Key Impacts
Feasibility and diagnostic performance of tongue swab-based qPCR testing for TB in programmatic settings in Vietnam
Tongue swab qPCR is a feasible, low-cost TB diagnostic tool with high specificity. While improved processing is needed to boost sensitivity and consistency, early evidence supports its use—especially pooled testing for community-based screening and active case finding. As one of the first programmatic evaluations of swab on an open-PCR platform, this study highlights the potential of swab-based diagnostics to complement existing strategies and expand equitable access to TB testing.
