Biography

Paediatrician and Professor of Epidemiology/Clinical Trials at MRC Clinical Trials Unit at University College London. Since 1990s, she has lead clinical trials and cohorts across Europe, Africa and Asia, focusing on pragmatic multi-country trials in infectious diseases. Initially focused on HIV, she broadened to trials in malaria and pneumonia. She was PI for the SHINE trial of treatment shortening for children with non-severe tuberculosis. She collaborates widely, has >500 publications, is a founder member of Paediatric European Network for Treatment of AIDS (PENTA), has served on WHO guideline committees and is a fellow of UK Academy of Medical Sciences.

Neither shortened intensive-ATT nor aspirin showed any benefit for children with TBM. Post-treatment follow-up to week-72 is ongoing.
