Biography
Dariusz Woelk is a 23-year-old medical student currently in the 8th semester at the University of Hamburg. During that time, he worked closely together with his Moldovan colleagues to explore this new TB diagnostic method.
Key Impacts
Non-Invasive diagnosis of pulmonary TB using face mask sampling: A prospective study in adults from Moldova
Although FMS demonstrated limited sensitivity for diagnosing PTB, it detected M. tuberculosis DNA in 6% of culture-positive patients who tested negative by sputum Xpert MTB/RIF Ultra. This finding suggests that, in resource-equipped settings, FMS may serve as a valuable complementary tool for the rapid diagnosis of PTB.
