Biography

With a PhD in tuberculosis epidemiology and 16 years of experience, Christiaan Mulder has been contributing extensively to tuberculosis prevention, control, and research in both low and high tuberculosis burden countries. He currently leads the Prevention & Access team at KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation. He focuses primarily on epidemiological and implementation research aimed to generate evidence and accelerate uptake of tuberculosis preventive treatment. He provides technical assistance to countries for national strategic planning and is a member of the WHO-EURO roster of consultants supporting WHO European region member states in optimizing their tuberculosis prevention and systematic screening activities.

Optimising child-friendly TB prevention regimens: Qualitative insights from Ethiopian interest-holders

While interest-holders generally preferred the 3HP regimen over 3RH for children due to its reduced dosing burden, they also highlighted the challenge posed by the higher number of pills per dose. Incorporating the preferences of children and their caregivers will be essential in developing child-friendly formulations that support better uptake, adherence, and improved treatment outcomes.

Estimating the prevalence of tuberculosis infection in the EU/EEA: Results of feasibility assessment

Modelling of TBI prevalence and risk to disease progression estimation, which could guide implementation of targeted TPT interventions, is feasible in 12 countries. Subnational harmonization and digitalization of data collection could increase the feasibility of future TB modelling.
