I am an infectious diseases specialist, PhD candidate at University of Genova (Italy). My PhD focuses on tuberculosis : I am coordinating a trial on new devices for breath sample collection for TB diagnosis (BreathForDx), I also conduct research bedaquiline resistance in South Africa. In Genova I participate in the outpatient care of persons with tuberculosis and I coordinate research on tuberculosis.
We confirm a high rate of adverse events and mortality in elderly persons with TB. Peripheral vascular disease is a major risk factor for death in our cohort. More evidence can be found expanding the study population.
Source: Conference 2024Hepatotoxicity was common within the endTB trial, with significant differences among experimental regimens. Being treated with 9BLMZ was significantly associated with the development of ≥grade 3 drug-related hepatotoxicity. These findings should be considered to tailor the choice of the optimal regimen for MDR/RR-TB.
