Biography
Dr Sismanidis is an internationally-recognised authority on the generation, collection, analysis and interpretation of tuberculosis data. Joining the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2009, Babis has been contributing to the Global Programme on Tuberculosis & Lung Disease and manages a team on strengthening national surveillance systems, measuring disease burden, and using the data for policy, planning, advocacy and programmatic action. Before WHO, Babis spent 10 years in academia in the United Kingdom where he acquired knowledge of medical statistics and epidemiology, understanding for the development of policies, guidelines, norms, and standards, and experience in conducting research, mentoring, and mobilising resources.
