Biography
Professor Chakaya Muhwa is a pulmonologist and Professor of Global Lung Health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. Based in Nairobi, Kenya, he trained in internal medicine at the University of Nairobi and led research at the Kenya Medical Research Institute, where he served as Director of the Centre for Respiratory Diseases Research. He previously managed Kenya’s National TB and Lung Health Program and is a past President of the Union.
He has held global leadership roles including Chair of WHO’s STAG-TB, Vice-Chair of the Stop TB Partnership Board, and Co-Director of major research consortia including IMPALA, LIGHT, and ITARA. He has authored over 120 publications and received international awards for advancing lung health, including the James Anga’wa Award and the Princess Chichibu Memorial Award.
