Biography

Brian Shuma, is an early career researcher, serves as a Tuberculosis Research Clinician at the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ). With over four years of experience in TB and infectious disease research, his interests encompass TB immunology, post-TB lung disease, advanced TB diagnostics, and TB implementation science, particularly in underserved populations. He is currently a scholar of the SMART4TB Early Stage Investigator Program and aspires to contribute to global goals of the End TB Strategy.

Characterisation of NTM isolated in a TB research laboratory using whole genome sequencing, Lusaka, Zambia

Isolated NTMs had high rates of resistance to antibiotics that are recommended for treating NTM disease. The clinical significance of NTMs isolated during culture for mycobacterium tuberculosis should be interpreted with caution and should follow the criteria that is recommended for diagnosis of NTM disease.
