Biography

Dr. Baasansuren Erkhembayar has held the position of doctor at the National Reference TB Laboratory, TB Surveillance and Research Department, National Center for Communicable Diseases in Mongolia since 2012. Throughout his career, Dr. Baasansuren has dedicated herself to laboratory diagnostics of tuberculosis, encompassing the detection of drug-resistant tuberculosis, ensuring consistent quality control in unit laboratories, providing professional methodological advice, and antimicrobial resistance diagnosis through genome sequencing. She completed my Master’s degree in 2020, focusing on drug-resistant TB.

Drug-resistance characterisation of M. tuberculosis using ONT in Mongolia

ONT-based sequencing proved highly reliable and accurate for detecting M. tuberculosis drug resistance. This approach offers a promising alternative to traditional methods, enabling faster, comprehensive DST results to guide effective treatment decisions. The next step will be to evaluate targeted NGS and maintain a stable and affordable supply of reagents and licenses.
