Biography

Ashlea Lorenz is a final year PhD student at the University of Technology Sydney, based within the Tuberculosis Research Program at Centenary Institute. Her PhD research examines host-pathogen interactions in Mycobacterium abscessus infection. She is particularly interested in M. abscessus pathogenesis in cystic fibrosis airways, and more broadly, in understanding host pathways that contribute to cellular uptake of M. abscessus.

Key Impacts

Epithelial-macrophage interactions in cystic fibrosis are responsible for accelerated Mycobacterium abscessus growth

This study demonstrates the importance of epithelial-macrophage interactions in the host response to MABS infection and fundamentally implicates CFTR as a driver of MABS susceptibility.
