Causal links between gut microbiota and the risk of TB and type 2 diabetes: A Mendelian randomisation meta-analysis

Our findings support a causal role of gut microbial composition in modulating susceptibility to TB and T2DM. Several taxa exhibit disease-specific or dual associations, revealing convergent pathways along the gut–lung–metabolic axis. These insights underscore the potential for microbiota-targeted diagnostics and therapeutics, particularly in TB-DM comorbidity. Future research should prioritize species-level resolution, multi-ancestry analyses, and longitudinal studies in TBDM populations.
