Factors contributing to delayed TB diagnosis in Somalia: Survey data identifies poverty, malnutrition, displacement, and low awareness as key factors delaying TB diagnosis in Somalia

Three-quarters of DS-TB patients (736 of 961) experienced significant diagnostic delays. These delays were driven by poverty, undernutrition, displacement, low awareness of free TB services, and reliance on informal providers. The National TB program together with its stakeholders have begun mitigation measures by developing policy documents e.g. MAF and PPM policy to better guide TB control activities and improve health literacy in the country. These actions are essential to reduce delays and achieve equitable, timely TB care in fragile settings like Somalia
