I am a dedicated tobacco prevention activist in Sri Lanka with over 25 years of experience. Currently pursuing my Master’s, I serve as Programme Director at ADIC and represent technical committees on tobacco control. I mentor undergraduate interns, conduct media discussions, and advocate with policymakers to strengthen tobacco regulations and promote a healthier, tobacco-free society.

A challenging intervention success: Tobacco use reduction in hard-to-reach communities in Sri Lanka

Reducing tobacco use in marginalized communities is challenging but possible through tailored, informal, and economically framed interventions. Approaching the issue via financial and social consequences—rather than purely health-based messaging—proved more effective in engaging these groups. Continuous, community-driven follow-up is essential for long-term change and sustainability.
