Biography
Dr Alex J. Scott is medical doctor and clinical researcher at the University of Cape Town Lung Institute, South Africa. He is currently completing his PhD (Medicine) at the University of Cape Town evaluating the accuracy and clinical utility of AI-driven computer-aided detection (CAD) during community-based active case-finding for TB.
Key Impacts
Impact of computer-aided X-ray diagnosis to optimise Xpert-orientated community-based active case-finding for TB: An open-label, randomised controlled trial
Community-based ACF detected a high burden of TB. A CAD-directed Xpert strategy detected similar proportions of TB compared to universal Xpert testing. Feasibility and cost-effectiveness data are being analysed and will be presented along with the final results to demonstrate the full impact of a CAD-directed Xpert strategy.

Bio-phenotyping undetected TB: Is asymptomatic TB infectious and what is the role of chest radiography?
More than a third of individuals with asymptomatic TB were probably infectious, with over a quarter of cavitary disease missed on CXR. These data inform disease burden estimation and community-based ACF strategies in endemic settings.
