Biography

Mr. Alemneh Mekuriaw Liyew is a current Ph.D. student at Curtin University. He is also a research assistant and casual staff at The Kids Research Institute Australia. Alemneh was previously working as a lecturer at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Gondar in his home country, Ethiopia. He completed his MPH in Epidemiology and Biostatistics and his BSc in Public Health, both at the University of Gondar.
Alemneh’s Ph.D. thesis focuses on mapping the burden of tuberculosis and drug-resistant tuberculosis in Africa.

Despite significant progress in BCG vaccination coverage across Africa over the past three decades, notable geographic disparities persist, with many subnational areas falling below target coverage levels. The current findings provide insights for targeted interventions to improve BCG coverage and enhance health outcomes, especially in underserved and unreached areas.

Our findings revealed marked variation in TPT coverage and completion rate at local and district levels. This suggests that certain areas, particularly those with low coverage and completion rates, require targeted strategies to improve TPT provision.
